Semuliki National Park is located in western Uganda within the Albertine Rift Valley, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Covering approximately 220 square kilometers, the park protects one of the oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests in Africa.
Semuliki is famous for its natural hot springs, rare bird species, and unique Central African wildlife that is not commonly found elsewhere in East Africa. It offers visitors an off-the-beaten-path safari experience in a true tropical rainforest environment.
Semuliki is one of Uganda’s least explored national parks, making it perfect for travelers seeking a quiet and authentic safari experience.

The Sempaya Hot Springs are the highlight of Semuliki National Park. The springs are divided into the female hot spring (Nyasimbi) and the male hot spring (Bintente).
The male hot spring shoots boiling water up to two meters high, creating a dramatic geothermal display. Visitors can even boil eggs in the hot spring water — a unique experience that attracts many travelers.
The hot springs are surrounded by lush forest, making the walk to them both scenic and educational.
Semuliki is home to forest elephants, buffaloes, chimpanzees, leopards, and several monkey species including black-and-white colobus monkeys and red-tailed monkeys.
The park is internationally recognized for bird watching, with over 440 bird species recorded. Many of these species are Central African birds that are rare in East Africa.
Semuliki is particularly famous for the shoebill stork and other swamp bird species found in nearby wetlands.
